Financial Aid at MSU Denver
Financial Aid is available in the form of grants, work-study, loans, and scholarships, all of which help to make your college education more accessible and affordable.
The process of receiving financial aid starts with submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete and submit the FAFSA as early as possible to be considered for the best aid available. Financial aid is awarded based on need, which is determined in part by annual income.
The information you submit via the FAFSA will allow MSU Denver to determine how to help you meet your financial needs. To continue to receive financial aid throughout your academic career, you must submit the FAFSA every year.
How To Apply for Financial Aid
Follow these steps to begin the financial aid process.
- Create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID.
This will allow you to sign the FAFSA electronically. If you are a dependent student as determined by the FAFSA, one parent must also create an FSA ID.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Use school code 001360 to ensure MSU Denver receives a copy of your documentation.

Financial Aid Deadlines
The 2024-2025 FAFSA is now available.
MSU Denver has extended its target date to July 1, 2024 due to the Department of Education delay in processing and sending FAFSA information to schools. MSU Denver will continue to remain flexible and may resort to extending this date of the Department of Education does not resolve many of the challenges families are facing completing and submitting the 2024-25 FAFSA.
To view important information about the new 2024-25 FAFSA, visit our FAFSA Simplification page here.
What to Expect After Filing the FAFSA
You may be required to submit additional documentation. Please monitor your Student Hub and MSU Denver email for any requests from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Financial Aid Documentation
Documents Needed for the FAFSA
The FAFSA questions ask for information about you (your name, date of birth, address, etc.) and about your financial situation. - Your Social Security number (it’s important that you enter it correctly on the FAFSA form!)
- Your parents’ Social Security numbers if you are a dependent student
- Your driver’s license number if you have one
- Records of your untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans noneducation benefits, for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student
Documents Needed for the FAFSA
- Information on cash; savings and checking account balances; investments, including stocks and bonds and real estate (but not including the home in which you live); and business and farm assets for you and for your parent(s) if you are a dependent student
- Your Alien Registration number if you are not a U.S. Citizen
- Federal tax information, tax documents, or tax returns, including IRS W-2 information, for you (and your spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are a dependent student
